Five Tips for Beautiful Hair

Washing Your Hair Extensions

  • Your hair extensions have already been thoroughly shampooed and deep conditioned by our Tycoon team. So, when you receive your hair, you don’t have to shampoo or condition it initially unless you plan on chemically dying the hair. In that case, always shampoo your hair AFTER the color dying process is complete (clarifying shampoo is best to remove any dye residue). Be sure to detangle your hair gently prior to washing it. Once you shampoo and rinse the hair thoroughly with luke-warm water, deep condition the hair for at least 20 minutes to restore moisture and luster by allowing the conditioner to sit in the hair. We recommend brushing the conditioner through the hair with a detangling brush and letting it sit for minimum 20 minutes. Once the deep conditioning process is over, make sure to thoroughly rinse all the conditioner out of the hair to remove any residue with cold to luke-warm water.

  • What kind of products should you use? A light sulfate-free shampoo and moisturizing conditioner is recommended. However, a mild shampoo/conditioner is okay to use occasionally. For hair oils, it’s recommended to use a very lightweight product like Biosilk. Always remember less is more, you don’t want to use heavy oil products on the hair because they will weigh the hair down and create build-up in the hair easily.

  • How often should you wash your hair? We recommend once every two weeks normally or once a week if your hair gets extremely dirty quick. Also, if you happen to swim in a pool or in the ocean and your hair gets wet, it’s very important to wash your hair twice to ensure all impurities (chlorine, salt water or sand) are removed.

How to Dry Your Hair Extensions

  • It is always best practice to let your hair air dry. In the event that’s not possible, you can use a hair dryer just be mindful of how long you keep the dryer on your hair. Excess heat can dry out your hair extensions because the hair is no longer living on someone’s head. When using a hair dryer always use a detangling brush to detangle the hair from the ends to the roots to avoid any unnecessary friction.

How to Brush Your Hair

  • Always use a wide tooth comb or wig/detangling brush to detangle your hair. Remember to always comb or brush the hair from (bottom to top), this decreases the amount of breakage and tangling in general.

How to Protect Your Hair

  • Your hair extensions are low maintenance, but you still need to care for them as if the hair was growing from your own scalp. Remember to sleep with a silk bonnet on or use silk pillowcase (this prevents friction and pulling on your hair extensions). Always use a heat protecting oil or spray when using any heat styling tools (hair dryer, flat iron, or curlers).

How to Maintain Longevity

  • With anything, consistency is key. If you are mindful of all the previous hair tips that I have given you, your hair should last a long time.
